Awamaki is a Peruvian non-profit working with impoverished Quechua women weavers to improve their skills and increase their access to market, thereby revitalizing an endangered weaving tradition while affording Quechua women with a reliable source of income.

Parobamba to Patacancha, dye garden success!

On Friday, April 1st, weaving project coordinator Jess traveled to Patacancha to survey the newly transplanted dye plants. The kinsa k'uchu plants are growing well, and some of the plants are already propogating the fungus used to create the spectrum of celeste and turquoise dyes found elsewhere in Peru.

Awamaki announces 2011 Weaving Retreat!

After a successful first run in Oct 2010, the weaving retreat will return in Oct 2011 as a regular fixture in Awamaki's tourism program.
