Brisa Marina Ocampo
Storytelling Coordinator
Hometown: Lima, Peru
Brisa was born and raised in Lima, where she spent her entire childhood, but from a young age developed a deep passion for her country and for social impact work. She studied Communication for Development, driven by a desire to tell stories that connect people, culture, and social change, and she hopes to pursue a Master’s degree in Anthropology in the future.
Since graduating, Brisa has had the privilege of working with large nonprofit organizations such as UNICEF, CARE, and Atiycuy, including field-based work in Cerro de Pasco. Most recently, she moved to Cusco—a decision she feels deeply grateful for after living in Cerro de Pasco—as it allows her to continue discovering Peru while leaving a small but meaningful footprint through her work with communities she truly loves. Alongside her professional work, Brisa is a deeply artistic person: she writes poetry, draws, creates collages, and produces videos as ways of understanding and expressing the world around her.
Favorite Peruvian Dish or Meal: Tallarín a la huancaína with sautéed tofu
Favorite Place to Visit in Peru: Moyobamba (still unvisited—but very high on the dream list!)
What they love about Awamaki: Awamaki’s deep commitment to the sustainable development of artisan cooperatives and the opportunity to learn from ancestral textile knowledge, ways of life, and worldviews. For Brisa, Awamaki beautifully weaves together art, development, and lived reality.
