Experience Andean Life
Sustainable, Community-Based Tours of Andean Culture
Experience the Sacred Valley Beyond Machu Picchu
Most visitors pass through Ollantaytambo on their way to Machu Picchu. But beyond the main route, the surrounding valleys and mountain communities offer a different perspective on the Sacred Valley, one shaped by daily life, tradition, and long-standing cultural practices.
Awamaki’s tours and cultural experiences are designed to connect travelers with this less-touristy place. Whether spending time in a rural weaving community, sharing a meal with a host family, or learning directly from female artisan leaders, each experience is rooted in long-term relationships and community partnership.
These small-group tours focus on participation, conversation, and cultural exchange rather than observation alone, creating opportunities for more meaningful connection with the traditions of the Andes.
All experiences begin in or near Ollantaytambo and can be incorporated before or after visiting Machu Picchu.

Why Our Experiences Are Different
These experiences are community-based and relationship-driven, built around small-group visits rooted in Quechua communities in the Sacred Valley area. Each tour is co-designed with the artisans, centering around participation rather than performance, creating space for conversation, shared learning, and more meaningful cultural exchange.
