Sustainable Design Intern

Hometown: Princeton, New Jersey

Sammy is our sustainable design intern. She grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, but attended the Massachusetts based boarding school Walnut Hill School for the Arts in high school. There, her love of fashion and design was sparked. That passion became fully formed in college, attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, from where she graduated with a degree in fashion. Sammy was particularly inspired by a unit on historical fashion, where she learned to love handsewing, slow fashion techniques, and natural fabrics. At Awamaki, Sammy utilizes all those skills and interests, working on sustainable new products and inventive ways to increase the sustainability of existing products. She loves the creative freedom Awamaki offers her to explore, experiment, and discover. Sammy has been with Awamaki for six months. Outside of work she can be found drawing or working on her own projects. Every Wednesday night she joins a call to play Dungeons and Dragons with friends from home.

Favorite Peruvian Dish or Meal: Torrejas

Favorite Place to Visit in Peru: Ollantaytambo–she’s always been a homebody

What they love about Awamaki: Sammy loves how much she gets to do. She always knew she wanted to work at a small company where she could be involved in the whole life cycle of the products. At Awamaki, she gets to research, design, and sew.
